Self-tickling: Not funny enough

No matter how much one hates laughing (!), they cannot stop themselves from giggling and howling when tickled by someone.

On being tickled, very sensitive nerves under your skin send signals to the brain to activate sense of touch and happiness.

But have you ever tickled yourself and laughed uncontrollably?

When you try doing this, your brain predicts your actions. It then inactivates signals of touch and delight and, as a result, you feel nothing.

The Element of Surprise

Scientists believe that this is your brain's way to avoid unnecessary information.

After all, the brain consumes 20% of the body's energy. No wonder, it would want to spend this energy in a more productive way!
